A match is played by two teams, each consisting of seven players one of whom is a goalkeeper, on the field. The number of players may be increased if agreed upon by both coaches (the referee must be informed). If one coach does not agree with the increase in players no change to the number will be permitted. The number of players permitted per team is the number rostered on the team list by the Club.
The forfeit of a match is to be avoided whenever possible. Should a team only have 5 or 6 players, that team should play with the 5 or 6 players, the opposing coach should only field one more player than the understaffed team. If players show up late they shall be permitted to enter in accordance with the substitution process.
If a team has less than 5 players coaches are encouraged to establish a way of sharing players to permit a match to be played.
Unlimited substitutions are permitted during the match.
To substitute a player the coach must inform the referee. The players should be taught to enter and leave the field only when advised/acknowledged by the referee. They should also be taught to make the substitution at the halfway line.
Substitutions can take place at all stoppages of play (goal kicks, after a goal, start of a half, free kicks and dropped balls) and prior to a team's own throw ins. No substitutions are permitted at corner kicks and penalty kicks.
The substitution of the goalkeeper, this includes changing places with one of the players already on the field, is permitted in the same manner as other substitutions.
If a team makes a substitution without the referee's permission the play is stopped, the illegal substitution is reversed and an indirect free kick awarded to the other team. The substitution is then permitted to take place at the next opportunity.
